Sunil Arora (सुनील अरोड़ा)
Sunil Arora is the 23rd Chief Election Commissioner of India. Apart from this, he was also the chairman of A-Web (Association of World Election Bodies). He is a retired IAS Officer from Rajasthan Cadre. He also worked for two ministries of Government of India as a secretary.
He was born in Hoshiarpur (Punjab) on 13 April 1956. His father worked as an accountant in Indian Railways and his mother taught in DAV College. He also has two brothers, one of whom is also an IAS Officer and the other one is a diplomat in IFS. He completed his high school studies in Vidya Mandir School & Dayanand Model School in Hoshiarpur. He did his graduation in Bachelor of Arts from DAV College and Master of Arts from Panjab University, Chandigarh.
He started his career as a Professor in DAV College, Jalandhar. Sunil Arora served in multiple posts for both Government of India and Government of Rajasthan, including Additional Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Small Industries/Investment & Protocol), Chairman & MD of RSIDIC (Rajasthan State Industrial Development & Investment Corporation). He was also a Magistrate & Collector in multiple districts of Rajasthan including Dhopur, Jodhpur, Nagaur and Alwar. He was also a secretary of Union Information & Broadcasting, Union Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Ministry of Civil Aviation. He was also a Chairman & MD of Indian Airlines. He retired on 30th April 2016. He was then appointed as CEO of IICA (Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs) and then on 01-09-2017, became the 23rd Election Commissioner of India.
