B.R. Chopra (बलदेव राज चोपड़ा)
Baldev Raj Chopra commonly known as B.R. Chopra was an Indian Director and Producer who works on over 20 films, including iconic films such as Naya Daur, Sadhna, Nikaah, Insaaf ka Tarazu, Awam etc. He also produced one of the most watched TV Shows in the world which was "Mahabharat". He is known as the architect of Golden Era of Bollywood. Baldev Raj Chopra was born in Rahon (Pakistan) on April 22, 1914, to Vilayati Raj Chopra and Draupadi Chopra. He had many siblings, and he was the second-eldest. His youngest sibling, Yash Chopra, and his nephews, Aditya Chopra and Uday Chopra, were also in the filmmaking industry. He completed his Masters of Arts in Literature from Punjab University in Lahore.
He started his career as a film journalist for the Cine Herald in 1944, which he ran until 1947. It published related film and industry news monthly. He started producing a movie in Lahore, but because of the partition, he had to move to India. His first successfully directed film was Afsana, which he also produced. Chopra formed his own production house, B.R. Films, which went on to produce many hits, including Pati Patni Aur Woh, Insaf Ka Tarazu, Mazdoor, Baghban, Baabul, Bhoothnath, The Burning Train, Aaj Ki Awaaz, Dhool ka Phool, Waqt, and more. He stepped into television with Mahabharat, which became the most successful TV series in India and gained global recognition as it broke the viewership record in the Guinness Book of World Records.
For his work, he was honoured by the Indian government with the Padma Bhushan in 2001. He also won the highest award in Indian cinema, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
