Subhash Ghai (सुभाष घई)
Subhash Ghai is an Indian director, producer, and screenwriter who has worked on over 35 movies, including iconic films such as Hero, Kalicharan, Saudagar, Khalnayak, Pardes, etc. He is one of the most popular and prominent hitmakers, and his works are appreciated even to this day. He is also known as "Showman" for his contributions to Indian cinema. Subhash Ghai was born in Nagpur on January 24, 1947, to dentist K.D. Ghai and Subhadra Ghai. He also has a brother, Ashok Ghai, who is also a Bollywood film producer. He married Mukta Ghai in 1970 and has two children, Meghna Ghai Puri and Muskaan Ghai. He completed his bachelor's degree in commerce from Rohtak, Haryana, and then went on to become a graduate of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune.
After graduating from FTII, he came to Bombay (present-day Mumbai). He used self-help books to try to understand how to influence people, and he managed to enter the film industry. He also joined a Filmfare contest where he was one of the top 3 contestants, which gave him some exposure in the industry, and after about a year, he received small roles in films like Taqdeer and Aradhna. In 1970, he was the one who took the lead in Umang and Gumrah.He made his directorial debut with Kalicharan, which came out in 1976. After this, he started to direct more movies with popular Indian actors, including Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor. He directed some great movies, including "Meri Jung" and "Ram Lakhan." His two films, "Pardes" and "Taal," were super hits internationally and helped sustain his place in the industry. After directing many films, he took a break and focused on producing. He produced films like Aitraaz and Iqbal. He also set up his own film institute, Whistling Woods International. He is currently a board advisor for IIMUM (India's International Movement to Unite Nations).
