He was the nephew of famous Dev Anand. He was the brother to three sisters. He attended Modern School in New Delhi and studied economies at St. Stephen College. He came a CA at the age of 22. He worked several years as an accountant while he was in England. He married Suchitra Krishnamoorthi in 1992 and has a daugher Kaveri Kapur. The couple had a divorce in 2007.
