Madan Lal Khurana (मदन लाल खुराना)
Madan Lal Khurana (also known as Dilli ka Sher) is an Indian politician. He was appointed as the former Chief Minister of Delhi from 1993 to 1996, and he’s also a member of the RSS (Rashtriya Swayansevak Sangh) and BJP (Bhartiye Janta Party). In 2004, he also held the office of governor of Rajasthan. During the Atal Bihari Vajpayee administration, he served as the Union Minister of Tourism and Parliamentary Affairs.
Madan Lal Khurana was born in the Lyallpur village of Punjab (British India) on October 15, 1936. His father was SD Khurana, and his mother was Laxmi Devi. He did his graduation from Kirori Lal College (Delhi University). He did his post-graduation in Economics. He was married to Raj Khurana and had four children. He was also a teacher at PGDAV College.
He started his political career as a student, training at Allahabad University. He was the general secretary of the Allahabad Student Union in 1959 and the Akhil Bhartiye Vidyarthi Parishad in 1960. He founded the Delhi Chapter of Jan Sangh along with Vijay Kumar Malhotra, Kedar Nath Sahani, and Kanwar Lal Gupta. He was also its general secretary from 1965 to 1967. He was also a Chief Whip, Executive Councillor and Leader of the Opposition in Municipal Corporation Politics.
When PM Indira Gandhi died, the BJP lost its grasp in Delhi, but Khurana worked tirelessly to get it back, which is why he’s also known as "Dilli Ka Sher." He was also the Chief Minister of Delhi, and he was responsible for keeping the party afloat in New Delhi for more than 40 years. The pinnacle of his career was when he served as a Chief Whip, Executive Councillor, and Leader of the Opposition in the Vajpayee government. He was also a governor of Rajasthan.
