Rajesh Khanna, commonly referred to as the "First Superstar in Hindi Cinema," was an Indian actor, politician, and film producer. Khanna was born on December 29, 1942, in Amritsar, Punjab, to a Punjabi Hindu Khatri family. He made a record-breaking 15 consecutively successful solo hero films between 1969 and 1971. He was the highest-paid actor in Hindi films for much of the 1970s and 1980s. Rajesh Khanna’s most famous films were ‘Ittefaq’, ‘Aradhana’, ‘Sachaa Jhutha’, ‘Haathi Mere Saathi’, ‘Kati Patang’, ‘Anand’, ‘Amar-Prem’, ‘Bawarchi’, ‘Dushman’, ‘Namak-Haraam’, ‘Prem Nagar’, ‘Prem Kahaani’, ‘ Chakravyuha’, ‘Hum Dono’, and more a lot. Four BFJA Awards, five Filmfare Awards, and the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian honour, were among the accolades bestowed upon him after his passing in 2013.

Lala Hiranand Khanna and Chandrani Khanna were his natural parents. Lala was the MC High School's headmaster in Burewala (in Vehari District, Punjab, Pakistan). He went to St. Sebastian's Goan High School with his buddy Ravi Kapoor, who later went by the stage name Jeetendra. Khanna ultimately became interested in theatre, participated in a lot of stage and theatre performances when he was in high school and college, and took home several prizes in intercollegiate drama contests. His wife was Dimple Kapadia. Twinkle and Rinke, the couple's two kids. His closest friends from the industry included Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar, Mumtaz, Kishore Kumar, R.D. Burman, Asha Parekh, Sharmila Tagore. He maintained his cordial relationship with many more in the film industry.

He began his political career as running for Congress in the years following 1984 at Rajiv Gandhi’s urging. From the New Delhi’s constituency, where he won the 1992 by-election and held onto his seat until 1996, Rajesh Khanna served as a member of Parliament for Indian National Congress. After 1996, he ceased to be involved in politics. Khanna only appeared in movie ‘Khudai’ during his time as a politician, declining any further acting role (1994). After quitting the legislature, he became a political activist for the INC and ran for office till the Punjab election in 2012.

A religious retreat for folowers of Shirdi’s Sai Baba was created on property that Khanna and a group of International Businessmen purchased in Shirdi. He awarded with Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award at the 50th anniversary in 2005. He also awarded with the IIFA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009. His health has been declining since he was given the cancer diagnosis in July 2011, according to the sources. He died on 18 July 2012, at his bungalow, Aashirvad, in Mumbai.
