Prem Chopra (प्रेम चोपड़ा)
Prem Chopra is a highly respected and accomplished actor who over a period of more than 60 years, he has appeared in 380 movies the course of his career. Born on September 23, 1935 in Lahore, Pakistan, Chopra was the youngest of seven children. His family moved to Delhi, India following the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947. Indian actor Prem Chopra performs in Punjabi and Hindi movies. Despite typically playing a villain, he speaks softly. Both viewers and critics continue to like his 19 flicks, which have Rajesh Khanna as the protagonist and him as the adversary.
He attended Shimla's S.D. Senior Secondary School for his education. His father wanted him to become a physician or an officer of the Indian Administrative Services. After his father, a government employee, was transferred to Shimla, Chopra finished high school and college there. He received his degree from University of Punjab. He heartily participated in the college dramas. Three daughters—Rakita, Punita, and Prerana—were born to Prem Chopra and Uma (the younger sister of Krishna Kapoor, Prem- nath, and Rajendranath). In 1960, Mud Mud Ke Na Dekh, a poorly received film starring Bharat Bhushan, marked Prem Chopra's Bollywood debut. Prem's 1960 Punjabi film Chaudhary Karnail Singh, in which he starred alongside Jabeen Jalil, was recognised and earned a National Award.
Next, in 1964, he portrayed Sukhdev in Shaheed, one of his few successful positive main roles. From 1965 to 1967, he gave standout performances in popular movies as Sikandar E Azam, Nishan, Kunwari, Teesri Manzil, Meara Saaya, and Upkar. Following Teesri Manzil and Upkaar, he was overrun with roles as villains in movies. When Prem Chopra was already a part of commercial successes like Nishan, Sikandar E Azam in 1965 and Sagaai, Mera Saaya in 1966, he continued to work with TOI. When he co-starred in the movie Do Raaste with Rajesh Khanna as the villain, he became well-known throughout all of India. Rajesh and Prem collaborated on 19 movies from 1969 and Ghar Parivaar in 1991. In addition to his acting career, he has also been involved in various charitable causes and is known for his philanthropic efforts.
Despite his success, Chopra remains humble and is widely respected for his talent and professionalism. He continues to work in the film industry, and is considered a living legend by many fans and colleagues alike. The Arora-Khatri team thanks him for his contributions.
