Abhinav Bindra (अभिनव बिंद्रा)
On September 28, 1982, Bindra was born in Dehradun, India. When he started shooting at the age of 14, he immediately established a reputation in the sport. He attended St. Stephen's School in Chandigarh, India, and then graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a degree in business management. He would train for extended durations in Germany because he was determined to train with the greatest equipment possible, which was then unavailable in India.
Abhinav Bindra, a retired Indian professional shooter, is most known for becoming the first Indian to win an individual gold medal at the Olympics in the 10m Air Rifle competition at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The achievement he accomplished in 2006 made him the only Indian to hold both the World and Olympic titles concurrently. Throughout his career, Bindra competed in several different shooting events, including the 10m Air Rifle, 10m Air Pistol, and 50m Rifle 3 Positions. He represented India at the Olympics on four occasions, 2000,2004,2008,2012. He also competed in multiple Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and World Cup events.
In addition to his Olympic gold medal, Bindra has won numerous other medals throughout his career. These include a gold medal in the 10m Air Rifle event at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, a gold medal in the same event at the 2006 World Shooting Championships, and a gold medal in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions event at the 2002 Commonwealth Games. He also won multiple medals at various Asian Games and World Cup events. Abhinav Bindra is widely considered to be one of the greatest shooters in Indian history and he has also been honored with several awards including the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and Arjuna award.
After retirement in 2016, Abhinav Bindra has been actively working towards developing sports infrastructure in India, promoting and helping young Indian shooters. He is also on the board of many sports organizations and helping Olympic athletes to achieve greater success. He also runs a high performance training center named Abhinav Bindra Targeting Performance. The Arora- Khatri Team thanks him for his contributions.
