Shashi Kapoor was a renowned Indian actor, producer, and director who made a significant contribution to Indian cinema. He was born on March 18, 1938, in Calcutta, British India, and passed away on December 4, 2017, in Mumbai, India.

In Mumbai's Matunga locality, Kapoor went to Don Bosco High School. In 1956, when they were both employed by different theatre companies, he met English actress Jennifer Kendal in Calcutta. Shashi performed in plays for his father's theatre company, Prithvi Theatre, as well as serving as assistant stage manager. Kapoor began his acting career as a child artist in the late 1940s and made his debut as a lead actor in the film "Dharmputra" in 1961. He went on to star in several critically acclaimed and commercially successful films such as "Jab Jab Phool Khile," "Siddhartha," "Deewar," and "Junoon."

Throughout his career, Kapoor produced and directed several films under his own production company, Film Valas. He was also a theater actor and director, and produced several plays in English and Hindi. He was a member of the Indian People's Theatre Association and the Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai. He was also a member of the board of governors of the National School of Drama.

Kapoor received several awards for his contributions to Indian cinema, including the Padma Bhushan in 2011 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015.
