Brijmohan Lall Munjal (बृजमोहन लाल मुंजाल)
Brijmohan Lall Munjal was an Indian businessman and founder of Hero MotoCorp, one of the largest motorcycle manufacturers in the world. Born in 1923 in the Punjab region of British India, Munjal grew up in a family of entrepreneurs and was exposed to the world of business from a young age. He completed his education in Lahore before moving to Delhi in the 1940s to start his career.
Munjal's first venture into the world of business was as a distributor for Hero Cycles, a company owned by his brothers. He quickly rose through the ranks and was eventually appointed as the Managing Director of the company.In the early 1960s, Munjal saw an opportunity to expand into the motorcycle market. He founded Hero MotoCorp and began manufacturing and selling motorcycles under the Hero brand. The company quickly gained a reputation for producing high-quality, affordable bikes and rapidly expanded its market share in India. Under Munjal's leadership, Hero MotoCorp became one of the largest motorcycle manufacturers in the world, with a presence in more than 50 countries. The company was known for its commitment to innovation and technology, and Munjal was a strong advocate for research and development.
In addition to his business achievements, Munjal was also a philanthropist and educationist. He was a founding member of the Munjal Global Learning Foundation, an organization dedicated to improving education and skills training in India. He also supported various charitable causes throughout his life.Throughout his career, Munjal received numerous awards for his contributions to the Indian automotive industry. He was honored with the Padma Bhushan in 2005, which is one of the highest civilian awards in India. He also received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers in 2011. In addition, he was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Confederation of Indian Industry in 2014.
